Vaniqa (eflornithine), when applied to the skin, works by blocking an enzyme that is involved in the production of hair, in the hair follicles. It can be used with laser therapy to help reduce hair growth in women with hirsutism.
Vaniqa does not remove hair, so you may need to continue with your normal methods of hair removal while using it. These may include shaving, waxing, hair removal cream, plucking, laser, and electrolysis.
Before you start the treatment always read the manufacturers leaflet contained with the medication, which contains more information and the potential side effects.
How to use Vaniqa
Clean and dry your face before use. Apply a thin layer of the cream twice a day to the affected areas of your face. Rub it in well so that no cream is left visible on the skin. Avoid getting the cream near your eyes or mouth as it can irritate. Leave at least 8 hours between applying the cream again. Wash your hands after use. Do not wash your face for at least 4 hours after applying the cream. Wait at least 5 minutes before applying any makeup.
If you have just used a hair remover or you have just shaved then wait at least 5 minutes before applying the cream to avoid any irritation.
How long it takes to see the effects
It can take about 8 weeks before you start to see the full effects so it is important to use the cream regularly. If you do not see improvement after using it for four months, then it is best to discontinue.
Never give your treatment to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
